Well, it's really a lenticular display - not "holographic".  And he's several years late in "coming up" with this idea.

Mounting lenticular sheets on phones has been done by several manufacturers over the years. And the latest iteration of this is the one by MOPIC - that now also offer a glasses-free 3D display.

But the problem with "over the glass" solutions is that the lenticular sheet is not directly touching the LCD surface.  For best results, the lenticular sheet must be under the glass such as on 3D phones and tablets.
